Deleting your Kerfox account and data.
Last updated
You can delete your Kerfox account, and the data filed under it, at any time: yourself in the app, or by asking us by email. This page says how, what goes, and the few things that are kept.
On this page
In the app
Open Kerfox, go to Me and scroll down to Data. Tap Delete my account and data, read what will be deleted, then tap Delete.
Your account and everything filed under it are deleted from our server straight away, and the app then clears your phone and starts again as a new guest. It needs a connection: if Kerfox cannot be reached, nothing is deleted, and you can try again.
It works the same way if you use Kerfox as a guest, without an account: it deletes the records we hold for your phone, then clears the phone.
What is deleted
Everything filed under your account, or under your phone if you use Kerfox as a guest:
- Your account, and the email address it signs in with.
- The backup of your progress, if you have an account.
- Your usage records.
- The reports you have sent us about questions, and any badges and XP they earned.
- Any Pro your account holds, which ends with it.
- The counts kept against your account of how often you have used the features that have a limit.
Then the app clears everything it kept on your phone.
What is kept
- If you have paid for Kerfox Pro, the record of each payment, for 6 years after the end of the financial year it was made in, because UK tax law requires a company to keep its accounting records that long. It is no longer linked to your account.
- A short record of an email address, kept as a keyed hash with no address in it, for 2 reasons only: so that neither of our automatic emails is ever sent to the same address twice, and so that the free week of Pro is given once per address, which means making a new account with it does not start a second week. A keyed hash is a fixed-length code worked out from the address with a secret key that only our database holds. It is not the address itself, but anyone holding that key could check whether a given address is on record, which is what this record is for.
- Counts kept against a keyed hash of an internet address, rather than against your account. They are not linked to your account, so they are not part of the deletion.
If you have a monthly subscription bought in the browser version, it is cancelled as part of the deletion, before anything is deleted, so nothing more is taken. A subscription billed through Google Play cannot be cancelled from here: cancel it in Google Play first, and the app tells you if that is needed.
Messages you sent us
Messages you have sent us by email are kept in our mailbox, and those sent through the contact form on our website or the contact panel in the app are kept in our database as well. Neither is filed under your account, so deleting the account does not reach them. Write to legal@kerfox.app and we will delete those too.
If you joined the waitlist on our website, the privacy policy at kerfox.app/privacy says what is kept from it and for how long, and how to have it deleted.
If you no longer have the app
Email legal@kerfox.app from the address your account signs in with, with the subject Delete my Kerfox account. We will delete the account and everything listed above as deleted, and reply within one month.
If you used Kerfox as a guest, your records are not linked to a name or an email address, so we cannot tell from a message which records are yours. Reinstalling the app does not reconnect you to them either.
Where this fits
The app’s privacy notice, at kerfox.app/app-privacy, says what each of these records is and why it exists.
